Team AWESOME is an organization created by McCain Crow; a husband, father, business owner and fitness enthusiast. Born in Roseville, California, as a kid McCain enjoyed baseball, basketball and tennis. However when he left to study Psychology and Social Behavior at U.C. Irvine in 1995, his weight ballooned from 145 to 175 lbs (a life experience he jokingly nicknames ‘the Freshman 30′). Due to college socializing, cafeteria buffets and lack of exercise, McCain began heading down the route of the average american whose health deteriorated as they aged.
After college he founded Essential Design Landscape and Maintenance Company in June of 1999, married his wife Samantha in 2004 and had his first child Madelyn in 2008. During these life milestones, it became evident that his health and fitness needed to be a priority for himself and those that were dependent on him. He started running in 2008 and finished his first marathon in Napa Valley in 2009. While training in the Auburn Hills for the Sierra Nevada Endurance Run, McCain, his training partners Stan and Anna thought of creating “Team AWESOME”.
The word “awesome” signifies strength, vitality, and fun. The idea is to promote a team comprising of adults and kids who create strides in their personal fitness and work together to build health awareness and fitness education to their communities. Some of their projects include their annual Jog-a-thon and sponsored team races.
Team AWESOME targets someone like McCain, an average person wanting to make a sincere impact to themselves and their community through the positive power found in being physically active.
